How to get a Part 107 certificate
The path has four steps: confirm you qualify, create an IACRA account, book and pass the 60 question test at a PSI center, then finish the application in IACRA. The test fee is $175, paid to PSI. Fee checked against the FAA testing information on 2026-10-26.
Step by step
- Check eligibility. You must be at least 16, able to read, speak, write, and understand English, and in a physical and mental condition to fly safely.
- Create a free IACRA account at iacra.faa.gov and note your FTN, the tracking number that follows your application.
- Book the Unmanned Aircraft General, Small (UAG) test at a PSI testing center through the PSI exam portal. Pay the $175 fee at booking. This $175 is the FAA PSI exam fee, a public testing fee, checked 2026-10-26. It is paid to PSI, not kept by any study site.
- Study. Most candidates spend 10 to 20 hours. Put the hours into charts and weather codes.
- Take the test: 60 multiple choice questions, 2 hours, 70 percent to pass. You may use the testing supplement booklet provided in the room, which holds the chart excerpts and figures the questions point at.
- After passing, complete the Part 107 application in IACRA with your test ID. A temporary certificate is issued once the TSA security check clears, and the plastic card follows by mail.

FAQ
Do I need flight hours or a practical test?
No. Part 107 has no flight test and no logbook requirement for the initial certificate. The knowledge test is the whole exam.
How long is the certificate good for?
The certificate does not expire, but your privileges do lapse if you skip the free recurrent training every 24 calendar months.
